I'm a sucker for retellings of myths, so when I saw the synopsis of this book, I had to sign up for it.
More Perfect is an incredible book, and it's so unique. I've never read anything like it before. The book is well-researched, and you can tell Oh has a background in neuroscience. I found all the sciencey bits easy to understand and explained well, but that could just be me remembering all those traumatising biopsych lectures 😭
Reading about the Panopticon seemed so far-fetched, but at the same time, it didn't. I can imagine society progressing into that. Like with dreams being controlled and having a device in your brain that tells you everything, I can see it happening.
I'm very familiar with the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, so whilst reading, I knew what was going to happen, and I was anxiously waiting to see how things would play out. The ending was bittersweet and forlorn, and I really felt for Moremi. I felt so sad and wished the ending would change.
One thing I loved is that you can see Moremi develop and mature throughout the book. She changes, and she hardens, and I loved seeing her character development. I think she's grown into a better version of herself at the end, and you have to remind yourself she's really young. She's 19, the same age as me, and I don't know what I'd do in her situation tbh.
I just feel bad for Orpheus. I don't want to say too much, but he deserved better. It wasn't fair what happened to him, and he deserved to be happy.
I've given it 4 stars because there were a few minor things that I didn't enjoy as much. But the book is still really really enjoyable.
If you're into sci-fi, you should definitely read this book. And if you're not into sci-fi, then you should still give it a go because icl I'm not that into sci-fi, but I still loved it.
That's all from me today and I hope you're all having a great day :))
Love you all,
Aziza
